Food Poems

First graders at Brenneman had an exciting first poetry lesson! We read the poem “Fried Chicken,” by Kwame Alexander, who writes that his grandmother’s fried chicken is so good it tastes like pieces of heaven! Students talked about foods they like to cook and eat with special people in their lives. We hope you enjoy these delicious offerings…

Yummy foods we like

my mom likes to cook
  fufu with chicken,
  and it tastes like soup

mom’s healthy soup
  with carrots, tomatoes, and cabbage

sopa de zanahorias,
  cocinado por mi mamá

my mom likes cooking
  pizza, pepperoni

hot pizza
  pepperoni, cheese, tomato
  mom, papá

my dad makes noodles
  he cuts the cheese
  with a brown knife

my dad cooks me sopita,
  and my mom goes to the corner store
  to get hot chihuahua cheese

my mom goes to the store
  to buy strawberries, grapes, and watermelon,
  and orange, and piña

strawberries
  sweet, sour, and sloppy

my mom always cooks me
  delicious fruit salad,
  strawberries with yogurt,
  apples with caramel

my mom really loves
  steak, macaroni, tomatoes

macaroni and cheese
  my sister put it on the stove,
  good, different, tasty, delicious

super cheesy broccoli
  tastes good with cheese

  it taste so good

pepperoni looks good on the pizza
  it comes with peppers,
