The Chicago Poetry Center has regular, long-term internships that support many areas of the organization’s mission-driven work. Chicago Poetry Center interns are enthusiastic about poetry, the literary arts community, arts education, and nonprofit work. CPC interns receive a per-semester stipend and can expect to gain great experience in their time with the Chicago Poetry Center. Our interns contribute greatly to the organization and are given projects to champion which they will be able to showcase in their own professional portfolio of accomplishments.

We are not currently seeking applications.

The Communications Intern can expect to work directly with all staff at CPC on projects including creating content for our website, updating our website pages, managing online mailing lists, and reviewing CPC content for additional communication opportunities. This has the potential to include updating and creating author pages on our reading series archive as well.
The Programs Intern supports the CPC programs (Education Programs, Reading Series, Reading Series Archive) with a wide range of activities, primarily office and administrative. The Programs Intern supports outreach efforts to schools, gathering data, compiling school information, and coordinating with the Programs Manager. The Programs Intern may also work directly with the Reading Series Curator on similar projects for their program, including logging data and potentially collecting articles and assets for the online archive.
The Translation Intern will work as part of the Chicago Poetry Center’s Education Programs Team and work directly with the Director of Programs. The intern will translate student- and parent-facing documents from English to Spanish. The documents that will be translated include consent forms, event invitations, and student worksheets. The intern will also translate a bank of at least 15 lessons for students between 2nd-12th grades.

The Chicago Poetry Center is partnered with many Chicago-area universities via Handshake, and students are welcome to apply through the portal when positions are open and posted.
