“you overthink /and you overdrink the thoughts”: School Woes & Blues Poems

Students wrote ‘School Subject Woes’ with end-rhymes after watching a teen recite their original poem, ‘Mathematical Blues’.

Lesson Note: “I write entirely to find out what I’m thinking, what I’m looking at, what I see, and what it means. What I want and fear.” -Joan Didion, Why I Write.

Overthinking Again
by Paiten N.

They say you need no scars
but you feel you’re on Mars
your head is ringing
your head is dinging
you feel alone
like you have no throne
like you’re there
but you’re NOT there
you feel scared
because you’re only there
but nothing’s fair
you don’t have beautiful hair
you overthink
and you overdrink the thoughts
that build-up inside you
you cry in your room
because no one despite you
you sit in your chair
No one there for your care
