The Back of the City

The poets were asked to describe the City of Chicago in both a positive and negative light. Using the poem “Chicago” as a reference, the poets read how Carl Sandburg wrote about Chicago in both a positive and negative way. Enjoy!

Everything about Chicago

By Jeremie Rios

People die from violence

Violence makes people suffer

People cry at funerals

People are treated bad because of their race

Chicago has good food

Like tacos and tortas

Also arroz chino

Have you eaten this food?

In Chicago guns are dangerous because people get killed with them

Gangs use guns to kill mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters

Guns are used in murders

Good things about Chicago

In school because you learn new things

You can get help from teachers like math and reading

You learn new things about the things you like!

All About Chicago

Rafael Rivera

Guns are given to young men

Lil kids are dying at a young age by guns

Lil kids are given guns so they become trigger happy

Innocent People are getting killed for doing nothing

The sites of Chicago

Always taking pictures of nice things

It looks better at night with all lights on

People like the big buildings

A lot of people like to live in Chicago

Things In Chicago.

By Alia

Violence is harmful.

Violence can get people in trouble

Violence can put people in jail

Wherever you go there’s violence

There’s cool art around Chicago

Like the Crown Fountain

And Agora big feet

You should check it out one day.

VIOLESIA

Armando J. colon

Porque es malo la violencia para la personas o para los niño

También la pistola cuando los niños pequeños miran las armas.

Chicago es llevere

La city y el acuario

Los parques de agua

Los edificios del centro

Back of the yards poem

By Lizeth

Guns are bad

You can buy anywhere

It can happen anywhere

And effects people

They hurt people

But Chicago has good things

Like the downtown green river

Graffiti everywhere

A city view will never disappoint
