This week we read Gwendolyn Brook’s signature poem We Real Cool and talked about how rhythm is an essential element of writing poetry. Students then picked a favorite song and used it’s rhythm as a source of inspiration to talk about misconceptions adults have about their generation. Enjoy this week’s poets!
They say we ain’t got no good music
They say we did not act like this at ya’ll
They say when they were younger I did my
They say kids these days are out of control.
They say our attitudes are bad.
They say our clothes too tight and tiny.
But we say resolved and evolved that’s why ya’ll
Why think, I got more problems or how you
would say short tempered.
Why shout, say I’m loud, but I say
why I think.
Don’t keep, these foolish thoughts with you,
I’m not, dumb to you, look at me
