Music Memory Poems (Part 1)

Greetings Galileo poetry friends and followers! For the past 2 weeks, we have been working on poems related to memories of music. We discussed how poets use imagery to inspire readers to imagine using their five senses, as if they can really see, hear, smell, taste, or touch the details in the poem.

After reading Francisco Alarcón’s poem “My Grandma’s Songs,” students explored their own memories of listening, singing, or dancing to music. Try to imagine while you read… what can you see, hear, smell, taste, or touch?

Fun times Kylie R.

when I was dancing to pop music
with my dad in my car
going to soccer practice
loud banging
window rolled down
wind blowing in my face
holding my ball, sweater on
stopped moving my arms
stopped my body from moving
lean toward music at
the “click” of my seat belt
grabbed my bag.

Art music is cool to me Esteban

Art music is cool
it is my fav
I play it in the car
and my brother likes it
and I just want to dance
and I love the hmmmm in the song
and I can see the birds in the song
I can feel the car moving

My Grandpa & Music Gabby C.

Everyday
for 5 days
my grandpa
will pick me
up and listen
to Mexican music
with trumpets blasting
and voices singing

It's OK to dance Lexi L.

sunny sky
smell of bread
cold air

soft fur spinning around
dancing my heart out

oh no Mom woke up!
but it’s OK

because it’s
OK to dance

Mom joins
in we all
have fun

soon
bedtime
has begun
