In what has become a bit of a tradition over my many years as a teaching artist with Chicago Poetry Center, our last day is filled with more questions as students engage in a Quiz Show-style event I’ve dubbed the POETRY QUIZ! It’s designed to be both a class celebration and competition between two teams. All the questions, asked in Jeopardy- or Family Feud-style, center on what we have been studying over the past few months. Students stand at a podium with an old-school short-order cook’s bell to ‘ring in’ if they or a teammate knows the answer to the question. They have an opportunity to ‘phone a friend’ (consult another teammate) if the answer is not readily on the tip of their tongue in the 5 seconds they were initially allotted to provide an answer.
