More 5th graders creating poetry

This Monday was my 10th and final session of poetry with Twain 5th graders. We have had fantastic 10 weeks writing poetry together. To celebrate their success as young poets, students challenged themselves to create concrete poems. Concrete poems are visual artworks, where the poet’s words are arranged in interesting shapes to reflect the theme of the poem. Some students took their favorite poems from the residency and turned them into concrete poems, while others designed new poems on the spot.
Below are the Concrete masterpieces by 5th graders. It was so hard to choose, everyone did such a fantastic job. I also want to say congrats to the student poets who participated in the Spring Poetry Showcase at the Poetry Foundation last Saturday: Lily A., Emily C., Madison M., and Leslie O.
I want to give a special thanks for the gifts I received from teachers and students. It means so much to me and I’m so grateful. I’ve truly enjoyed teaching poetry at Twain, and I’m wishing you all a safe and wonderful summer.
