“Our bodies have an internal clock, called the circadian rhythm, that regulates when we are asleep and when we are awake based on environmental cues from light and temperature. While sleeping, your brain can recover from the day. Although it may feel like nothing happens while resting, the brain and body remain very active during sleep and enter several stages of sleep that feature many changes to eye movement, heart rate, and brain activity .”-Penn State Extension.
Ms. Wright, 7th Grade, Group One
As I lay on the bed,
Thoughts running in my head.
As things slowly go deep.
I am here, going to sleep.
Before I go to sleep
I want warm weather.
The soft blanket and pillow waiting
I hear the dog barking in the distance.
I look at the bright screen,
thinking of why I’m not asleep.
Hearing the hail shower down,
I go back to watching my phone.
Every night, I look at my phone.
Think of plans and assignments.
I hear people talking
and winds sometimes.
Ms. Wright, 7th Grade, Group Two
Waiting for sleep to come,
I lay there with wind rustling.
Building up under my bed
To make me scared.
But I just lay there,
Looking up.
I think of what I could do,
But with the walking, I couldn’t think
Just to only listen to the sound of
running feet.
But all I did was,
Looking up.
As I slowly drift away,
My eyes grew heavy,
I looked up for one more time,
Then I fell into a deep sleep.
In the night,
My phone shines bright.
The music in my head
doesn’t stop quite yet
Before bed,
The sight of
My sister, my
bed, lamp, nightstand,
Also, the blanket,
Makes me feel tired.
Before bed, the sound
of trees rustling
Outside, the phrase
“Goodnight!”
Crickets and footsteps
Make me feel lonely…?
Before bed, why
Do i think
About school?
Why the dreams that I dread
Come into my mind?
Before bed, the hope that my grades don’t
DROP,
Scares me? I fear
Of the unknown,
For the very. Next. Day
Light shines down the hall
as silence befalls.
The wind blows from my fan
thoughts and dreams ran.
走廊里透出光亮
当寂静降临。
风从我的风扇吹来
思绪和梦境纷乱如麻。
