“Poems Written from Home”

Greetings from the Land of Shelter-in-Place and Social Distancing. Well. I hope that the whole Swift Elementary School Community is safe and healthy. I SOOO miss visiting the classrooms of Ms. Popovic and Ms. Amato on Friday mornings. The students are just wonderfully curious, intelligent, and creative – each in their own unique ways. Some days when my heart is hungry for a smile, I close my eyes and picture their faces. Prior to the Stay At Home safety measures put in place just about 6-7 weeks ago, both classroom teachers and their students graced me with personal gifts for which I will always be grateful. Thank you.🙏🏾

Poets-in-Residence with the Chicago Poetry Center are currently revising our plans in order to make remote-learning poetry lessons available to our Hands on Stanzas students. In the meantime, April is National Poetry Month! And, some of Ms. Amato’s students wrote poems from home and sent them to her. She then forwarded them to me, and I am happy to publish them this week.

our dog is the cutest things alive
we are lucky that dogs still thrive.

Light is white and dark.
Earth has green and blue.

Land is brown and green
I love colors.
