One Lawndale: Part 1

The poets from Latino Youth High School started the first part of their poems for the One Lawndale Project. The multimedia installation aims to connect both the North and South Lawndale neighborhoods, which are the areas that many of the poets hail from. Please check their works in progress!

It’s walking down the streets

Watching the kids run to the ice cream truck

It’s the grass being green but not in the other side

It’s the grass being green here

In our community

It’s the smell of the carne asada

The music blasting

Pure pride in our roots

We all party
But have you been to a block party?
Where everybody’s out to party
Pop out, bring that arrachera

Looking at the layers of paint
Observing the work that they did in order
Imagining the effort and time they went into it
To show up to the spot and begin creating art
So many things many don’t consider
