For our 8th sessions, 4th and 5th grade students at Kozminski discussed the difference between biography and autobiography; and learned about odes, a poetry form that celebrates and shows respect for the worth of a person or thing. We read and discussed Peter A.’s “Ode to My Size” from Salting the Ocean: 100 Poems by Young Poets, and then students wrote their own odes.

Dogs

Ode to My Shoes

I am a lover about shoes
they are cool
I also have a cool collection of shoes
They protect me from dirt, wind, and other things
They also have a cool color theme like yellow, and white
My shoes are determined by numbers like 4’s 5’s or Jordan 1’s
It feels good to know that I wear nice clothes and shoes
I like the designs on the clothes.
Some of my favorite designers are Nike, Tommy Hilfiger, and many more.
My clothes protect me from the coldness or the wind
so I don’t freeze to death
Some shoes and clothes make me feel confident
some make me feel excited
and some make me happy
but
as long as I am happy
what I wear wouldn’t matter.
