Invitation Poems

Greetings Galileo poetry friends and followers! As we wrap up our time together reading, writing, listening to, and reciting poetry… we’re preparing for a Poetry Celebration! We read Shel Silverstein’s poem, “Invitation,” and talked about what kinds of people we hope will help celebrate our poems during our final meeting together. Students rewrote the poem by substituting some of their own words, and decorated invitations to bring home and share with their loved ones.

*We invite you to read the invitation poems below; check out any of our blog posts from the last 8 weeks; and be sure to look out for one final blog post celebrating our last batch of published student poets!

Invitation
Nathan L.

If you are a dreamer, come in
If you are a dreamer,
A keep-er,
A cry-er,
A try-er,
A find-er,
A hear-er,
A fry-er . . .
If you’d like to listen,
Come sit by the fire
For we have some
new poems to spin.
Come in! Come in!

Invitation
Cataleya C.

If you are a dreamer, come in
If you are a dreamer,
A swimmer,
A hugger,
A trickster,
A runner,
A sleeper,
A clapper . . .
If you’d like to listen,
Come sit by the fire
For we have some
nice poems to spin.
Come in! Come in!

Invitation
Natalia C.

If you are a dreamer, come in
If you are a dreamer,
A sleeper,
A reader,
A trickster,
A listener,
A clapper,
An eater . . .
If you’d like to listen,
Come sit by the fire
For we have some
random poems to spin.
Come in! Come in!
