“I Have Great Eyes like Night Vision Goggles”

This week, we read (in our best Hulk voice!) an excerpt of “Hulk Smash!” by Greg Santos and “Forest Walk” by Kristine O’Connell George. We talked about how to write a persona poem in the point of view of someone or something else, and we also went over what a simile is and how to use it. The 6th graders wrote some wonderful poems after that!

Ghost

by Yaritza

Hunting at night

Scare you though the day

I wouldn’t let you sleep

I’ll hide your things

Turn off your alarm

You try to catch me

But you’ll never find me

You annoy me every day

So I’ll hunt you all day

Annoying like a cricket

Sometimes like a blanket

I’m tired of you

I guess this is my final goodbye

I’ll always find you 🙂

Ronaldinho

by Juan

Ronaldinho yeah the one

who is Brazilian the one who

wins trophies the one who won

a World Cup the one who is

better than Messi

Ronaldinho like the one who does

magic with the ball the one

who got arrested for having

a fake passport Ronaldinho.

Predator of the Sky

by Jeremiah

Going so fast

diving down

catching my pret

they look like a clown

I have great eyes

like night vision goggles

I eat penguins

while they waddle

I love eating worms

because of the way they squirm

I eat other birds

before they can say words

I’m the highest in the sky

I kill prey until they die.

Golden Eagle

by Niko

I’m flying up up

looking for prey

I spot a baby deer

Bye

I dive down at 300 mph

The deer spots me

I missed and hit a patch of flowers

Fly up and attempt to

dive and catch

I caught my prey.

When You Abuse Your Phone

by Fiona

Jab-swipe-poke-zoom

“No I hate that, ooooh what’s that!”

“Ahhh! I dropped my phone in the toilet!”

This sound familiar?

Well, this is what I deal with all day.

How would you feel if I jabbed you,

broke you, drowned you in the toilet?

That is why I can’t deal with this anymore!

That’s right, I QUIT!!! Maybe, without me,

you will realize how much you need me?

Phone OUT!!

The Dark Knight

by Michael M.

The batman likes to be

in the dark and hide

like a bat and he likes to

fight for Gotham and have

a sidekick that is named Robin

and both of them

like to fight for Gotham

and you can never beat

the Dark Knight.

El Perro

by Sharith Q.

me sentiria mal por que

vivo en la calle y estoy muy

sucio, hace rato no como

todo mundo me ignora duermo

en la calle con much frio

estoy tar aburrido como un caracol

Translated:

The Dog

I would feel bad because

I live on the street

and I am very

dirty, haven’t eaten in awhile

everyone ignores me and I sleep

on the street very cold

I’m bored as a snail
