Dream Poems @ Moos

In our fourth week of poetry class at Moos, we had fun reading and writing about dreams! We listened to dream poems with our eyes closed to help us picture the poems in our mind. Then, we discussed how each line in the poems included lots of imagery – descriptive words that help us create an image in our mind.

After our discussion, we took some time to draw what we remembered from our own dreams (or something we hoped for) and used that as inspiration for writing either a dream poem or dream story.

Each week there will be 3 poems from each class published to our Hands on Stanzas blog, and every student will have an opportunity to see their written work published on our blog in the weeks to come.

Dream Story
Brooklyn C.

One night I went to sleep and I had
the most best dream ever.
I saw a castle with diamonds on it
and a bunch of flowers
and I was wearing a pretty pink dress
and I had a bear friend
and then my alarm woke me up.

A Dream (Story)
Jasmine S.

I had a dream that I was walking around the city
and I ran into a magical place.
There was candy everywhere
a hundred unicorns
and then I walked around for a while.
Then pancakes started raining out the sky.
It was chocolate chip pancakes.
They were delicious.
Then I woke up just when I was about to eat a cookie.

“Writing poetry makes me feel like I can see myself, like I can see my reflection, but not in a mirror, in the world. I write and I know I can be reflected.”
-Oscar S.
