‘And you have to watch it’: Straight to Video

As we continue distance instruction, students at Taft Freshman Academy continue to generate beautiful poems!  This week’s poems are inspired by There was this bear cam by Sandra Simonds. Students watched videos and then created work inspired by the watching or in the voice of the watcher. The tone of the poem was to be very conversational.

Lesson Note: ‘In a time of crisis, poetry can help focus our fears and transform ‘noise into music’ … In effect, poetry “aims in every possible way to reaffirm the world that we actually inhabit, in all its vital, messy, beautiful, tragic reality. Mar 10, 2020, The Washington Post.

protective cat
By Justin B.

The mom was very protective
The cat was very ransom
They both loved each other

They shared food
They cuddled together
They did everything together

Even tho one was a dog
And one was a cat
They didn’t care they love each other

The chance of a second chance
By Amelia G.

A woman found a dog in the middle of the street
100 degrees whether they both were in
The woman took the dog to the shelter
Hoping for a chance to find the dog’s owner

Days passed by and slowly there was little to no hope for the dog
The owners didn’t come
So the woman took a second chance on the dog and adopted the dog
Training was tough for her with the dog

Some days she wanted to give up
But giving up wasn’t the right thing to do
The dog taught her a lesson we all need perseverance and a little company
The dog gave her a chance
And she gave the dog a second chance
She ended up getting the job she wanted

All with just a little help from a dog
She was given a chance
The dog was given a second chance

This Dog adopted a baby cat
By Madeline K.

Okay, so there was this dog that adopted a baby cat,
And it was Adorable.
It was in Greece, and I think they found the cat
Just wandering around outside their home.

And it turned out that the cat didn’t have a mom,
So the dog basically adopted it,
Like being protective of it,
And taking care of it and everything.
It was the cutest thing ever,
And you have to watch it.

Banana
By Tien T.

I saw a banana video. It was goofy.
I had come across this video a few years back,
from another video that I had watched.

The banana dances moves side to side and sings.
Odd isn’t it. A banana singing and dancing.
Well, that doesn’t matter it’s funny and catchy.

Go see it if you haven’t already.

Bear Cam Adventures
By: Audrey N.

So there’s this video, that shows the best moments from their bear cams that week
There’s river rushing past in a hurry with some loud swishing sound
And a bear stopped on a little island poking around. Galloping about in the water like it hasn’t a care in the world
The camera angle switches and we see 2 more bears wrestling for a single salmon
All of the bears all have numbers and names, to keep track of them I presume, the video didn’t say. Another camera switch
We see a big bear taking his time to walk what looks like a small distance
A group of bears gallops about in the river chasing birds and having fun

Penguin Video
By Jordan T.

There was this penguin video.
There was these penguins
who were hunting
for fish. As they swam
they were efficient hunters and
worked together to catch food.
It also showed the journey they took every year.
It was dangerous,
scary but they had to do it.
This showed me how much
penguins persevere.

Outdated Vines
By Ray L.

“Road work ahead.”
Makes me snort

Two trailer park girls go round the outside
Makes me giggle

The morbid, “Then Perish,”
Makes me cackle

“It’s a gi-RAFT!”
Makes coke-a-cola pop out of my nose.

There’s something so entertaining about two car wash blow-up guys fighting.
Is my sense of humor broken,
Or am I funnier than everyone else?

I have to explain my weird sense of humor
While my peers side-eye me,

And walk away.

The ghost that wanted more light
By Saisha K.

There was this video with security footage
of really long and heavy curtains
miraculously opening by itself
It happened in the living room of
a family of four and no one was even
near the curtain at the time
there was also no windows open
so there wasn’t wind or anything
It wasn’t one of the curtains with
a remote control either
the family thinks it was a ghost
that just wanted more sunlight
In the room

You have to see this video, I’ll send you the link! Let me know what you think happened.

Videogame Video
By Christopher H.

There was this video about someone fighting in a video game.
Sounds boring but there is a twist.
They used extremely weak things.
And they were in a 2v1.
And they won easily.
They were so skilled at it.
It was amazing.
I hope you are as impressed as I am.

Hungry Racoons
By Marco Z.

In a video, a man was feeding raccoons.
Not just one raccoon but many and he was feeding them hotdogs and grapes,
The raccoons seemed to really like him as well as the food. The man was generous to the raccoons and it was clear that he had fed them before judging by their size.

It’s a really wholesome video with the raccoons all being so eager to grab their hotdogs to fill their stomachs with. I’m guessing the raccoons will come back for more feasts.
