It’s hard to believe that Ms. Leslie’s poetry residencies with Swift 2nd graders for the 2020-2021 school year have come to a close. All of our lessons this year have been remote! Somehow, we have made a special relationship through imagination and word play, and sharing stories, thoughts, and feelings. For our final session, we thought about how things are connected, and used prepositions such as inside, under, and next to, as gateways to writing new poems. Enjoy!
Inside my family
Inside my family is a huge heart.
Inside the huge heart is a candy heart.
Inside the candy heart is sweets.
Inside the sweets are sugar. Inside the sugar is love.
lnside the love is caring people.
Inside the caring is helpful.
Inside the helpful is being kind and nice to everyone.
Inside being kind and nice is being really good.
Inside being good is smart.
Under the forest
Ashritha Priya K.
Under the forest is a wild lion.
Under the lion is it’s skin.
Under it’s skin is meat.
Under the meat is it’s body parts.
Under its body parts are vitamins.
Under the vitamins are protein for the lion.
Inside the world
Inside the world are the earth,
Inside the earth is continents
Inside the continents are countries,
Inside the countries are cities,
Inside the city are state,
Inside the state are the sky,
Inside the sky are clouds,
Inside the clouds are stars,
And inside the stars are constellations.
What’s in space?
In space, Planets and stars are visible.
On Planets and Stars, are aliens who are like us.
Above Aliens are constellations and comets.
Comets have dust and ice.
In the corner, there is earth, a planet.
It has living things called “humans.”
Those humans make earth special.
Inside my head
Inside my head is my imagination.
Inside imagination is my skull.
Inside my skull are holes that
Let us see, breathe and do anything.
Inside those holes is my brain.
Inside my brain are thoughts
That my brain tells me.
Inside my thought we will
Never know until…
We are doctors!!!
Under that animal
Under my chair is a real unicorn
Next to the unicorn is a big big shelf
Up on the shelf is a fish
Over the fish is a cat leaping for joy
Wrapped up in my arms is a new puppy
Wrapped up in my feet are cute small bunnies.
What’s in space
By Sijan A.
In space there are rocks
And more rocks
Then there is the sun
That is big
Then we see
Earth that is
2 times smaller
You see green and blue
And you see
On top of my shelf is a stack of legos.
Legos take me an hour to make.
Legos can be fun and make you happy.
On my chair are even more stacks of legos.
Every where in my house I have legos
Inside my imagination there is pink cloud
Beside the pink cloud there is unicorn
Inside the unicorn there is happiness
Inside the happiness there is love
Inside the love there are things that we can’t see.
