“…to make stuff up in your mind”

Our 4th sessions gave Twain 3rd graders an opportunity to contemplate dreams. We read Carole Boston Weatherford’s “Which Way to Dreamland?” and noticed its questions, rhymes, and repeating lines. One of their favorite stanzas asks:

“How in the world do dreams get
in your head?
Do they leap from the pages of books
you have read?

Students thought about their own nightmares, sleeping dreams, and daydreams, and then wrote Dream Poems.

I dream of cars. I dream day and
night. Repeating dream under my bed.
I dream of a red Ferrari that goes
fast like lightning. All the way
around the world. I go in my
dream from Chicago to Florida.
I see my Ferrari went like lightning.
We could now go anywhere.

Violet D.

I dream of being on a rainbow.
I dream of being on a sunflower.
I dream of being on a cloud.

Naylea H.

I dream of my gramma.
I dream of the world filled with candy.
I dream to sleep in the clouds.
I will be by myself because
or else it’s gonna be noisy.
I dream to be with good.
I dream to be with my family members
to be with them that die.
I dream to be with my horse because
he is so cute.

I dream to a[n]
artist because well when I
was 5 years old I was a[n] artist
then I forgot about art
then I got good at drawing
so that is why I want
to be a[n] artist.

My dreams
by Leah S.

I dream to be a famous
gymnast. Can I do it?

I dream to help all the
people in need. I will try to do
this special dream.

How can we dream to do
something? Maybe to reach
my dream and do something
far.

How do I sometimes can’t
wake up when I have a
nightmare?

I dream to help my brother
to be his dream.

Alyza R.

one dream I have is
to be a teacher and
teach kindergarten and
have fun things like
a wheel to spin and when they
are good and a treasure chest
and to be a fun teacher.

to about me just everyone
by Brianna M.

I had a dream where everything
was fun and peaceful.

I had a dream everyone’s
dreams became true.

I had a dream that everyone
had money.

I had a dream that
music never ended.

I had a dream that
everyone was famous.

I had a dream that everyone
had money.

I had a dream that
everyone had robux.

I had a dream that
everything was a game.

About my dream
by Abel S.

Once I had a dream about
when I scored a goal in soccer.
So I was dribbling past the
defenders and shot and scored top!

Javier V.

Dreams are important
to make stuff up in your mind.
