Spreading The Love

Grissom’s 6th and 7th grade students are no strangers to expressing their love, as I was lucky enough to learn last week. Students spent some time watching Rudy Fransisco’s “If I Was A Love Poet” before diving into their own poem writing processes. Check out a few love poems below:

6th Grade

Sleep

by Liliana S.

I love sleep

When you sleep you dream

A dream is imaginary like a unicorn

I love sleep

When you sleep you have comfort

Comfort is as warm as fire

I love sleep

When you sleep you’re in your PJs

PJs as fuzzy as a bear

I love sleep

When you sleep, you are relaxed

relaxed and calm as water

I love sleep

Sleep is so common

Everyone likes it like candy

I love sleep

Sleep is enjoyable like candy

I love sleep

I Love My Mom

by Dayona R.

I love my mom

My mom is sweet as candy

her smile is pretty like flowers

her hair is as soft as a teddy bear

her heart is big as the Atlantic Ocean

her eyes are beautiful like the sunset

her personality funny like a comedy movie

her voice is relaxing as music

And her looks are lovely like roses

I love my mother!

Untitled

by Jose G.

I have a soccer ball that is soft as a piece of bread

My soccer goals are big as Chicago’s downtown.

The benches are small as a rat. The soccer field is as

long as the Golden State Bridge. The crowd is loud

as a trumpet. The ref whistle is high pitch like my voice.

7th Grade

My Dog

by Ricardo C.

My dog Bruno is loud as a train

His fur is fluffy and soft like a pillow

He is as slow as a sloth

His color is brown like a tree

He has big brown eyes

Skies

by Delilah C.

The skies sunset is pretty like flowers blooming

in the spring

The clouds can rain. It’s sometimes annoying.

Raining and thundering like a bunch of toddlers,

crying and screaming.

But the sun can brighten the day

like walking my dog with my brother

Smiling wide and bright, happy and calming.

What Do I Love?

by Natalee R.

Things I Love?

I love my family,

friends, playing volleyball, and

sleeping. My friends are

pretty as a flower.

I love sleeping. Sleeping

is peaceful like birds chirping.

I love my pet, but sometimes he could

be annoying like a room filled with

a lot of noise. I like playing volleyball,

it could be frustrating like a math test.
