Seeking Teaching Artists for 2015-16
Poets In Residence with the Hands On Stanzas Program

The Poetry Center of Chicago is seeking a new Poet In Residence to teach poetry reading, comprehension, writing, and performance to Chicago Public School students during the 2015-16 academic year.

Qualified applicants will have a strong background as a working poet, will have experience teaching and creating strong lesson plans, and will preferably also have experience working with K – 12 students. Energy, enthusiasm, and a passion for teaching are strongly desired.

Hands on Stanzas places Chicago poets in public school classrooms for 20 week residencies, running October – May. The writing and reading of poetry encourages students to explore how words can convey their own thoughts, visions and emotions. Teaching poetry improves literacy and prepares students to successfully navigate a world that demands creative communication.
