What’s An object?

Imagery! Imagery! Imagery!

After bringing to class an eclectic arrangement of items (a toy giraffe painted orange and blue, two Valentine’s Day themed stuffed dogs, two decorative bird items, dollar store flower bouquets, a small stuffed animal mouse with a pumpkin for a hat, and some seashells) the students all got handed one of the items and then had to write descriptions of their objects. No one knew what anyone else had and we all had to guess what object everyone had based on their description. You may think it would be easy to guess each others objects but with so many of the objects being animals, or stuffed items — the name of the game is specificity. And that is the game for great imagery too!

a pink heart shaped face

with gently closing eyes that lay long

lashes

a soft, pointed yellow beak and

two three fingered yellow feet to

match

beautiful patterned white lace

wrapping around the neck

of its pink-white plaid outer design that covers

its back, wings, and tail

as a cherry on top, there lays a

brown, yellow, and white straw

hat atop of its head with

a baby blue flower right in the center

of said hat, accompanied with a

white, shiny pearl in the middle of

the flower

to match the baby blue flower and

the pearl

stuck to the sides of

its wings are a five petaled baby

pink flower as well with a pearl in

its center

on its belly is a white and tan

zig zag/ triangle design that stretches

from its legs to its neck with the

white lace

the stitching that crosses its wings

and tail are small and white

although, the white threading that

connects the pink and white plaid

design to the tan and white orange triangle

design is starting to come undone

revealing more of the white

and tan design underneath its pink

and white plaid one

underneath its straw hat is a shiny

white fabric

and wrapping around under the

hat is a string of clear glue that

attaches the hat to its head
