1/12/26- Students at Vaughn imagined the future versions of themselves once they leave high school. Together, we read “Still I Rise” by Maya Angelou and discussed how affirmative she is of herself throughout the poem. We began to think of our own futures and what we would like to affirm for ourselves as we find our way there. From future writers to Star Wars warriors, we imagined ourselves into a future full of wants, metaphors, and similes. Time travel with us as you read some of their work!
In the future, I am a newscaster
I see the weather report
I hear soft music
I touch the skyflakes
I’ll be as patient as a nurse
I am as hardworking as a pencil sharpener
My life is a bowling alley.
My usual day looks like searching for Luke Skywalker
I see the battle space
I hear music
I touch the lightsabers
I’ll be as brave as a Jedi
I am as peaceful as a survivor
My word is grateful.
