The Plosh Plosh Plosh of Ice and other sounds at Moos Elementary

This week we’re exploring sound poems. Some sounds already have words, but others don’t, and I encouraged the students to invite sound words where needed. Students considered the sounds at home, at school, and in Chicago.

5th Grade

Sounds Of… by Jayda C.

I hear a crash from the trash can
I hear a wish for the wind
I hear kisses from the movie
I hear hi at school
I hear piano keys saying words

What I Hear by Lauryn S.

I hear the plosh plosh plosh
of the ice on my way to school
I hear the ringggg of the school bell
I hear the click clanggg of my phone ringing
I hear the swish of the basketball games at recess
I hear the psst psst psst of my friends trying to get each other’s attention
I hear the clang! clang! of the dishes being washed
I hear silence
