Swoosh! Buzz! Bang!

Hello again! Waters 6th graders know alllll about onomatopoeia and aren’t afraid to let you know it.  Together, we read Alien by Maya Marie Washington and discussed some of our favorite sounds. We were especially fond of the sound of rain and chickens clucking. We got the chance to write our own poems incorporating sound words. Check out a few of them below.

Ms. Roman's 6th Grade

What Am I? Ethan L.

What am I?

Tell me what I am

I am a snoopy because I love to sleep

I am a dying goat because that’s what I sound like

nnnnnrrrrrr!

What am I?

Tell me what I am

I am a broken doorknob

because that is my laugh

er er er er

What am I?

Tell me what I am

the truth is

I can be anything you want me to be

Because I am myself

Violet Ellie M.

I am a violet

I stand tall in the field…

Before the rain hits the petals

fffff the life falls to

the ground.

Plop, Plop

The tall plant that once

stood up high from the ground

has now fallen

The love it once represented

has been stripped away into the

soil that once helped it

ffffffff

The petals that once had a

voice to use was stripped

away

And only silence remains

with the spark of life

still fighting

After the Rain Chloe H.

I am the rain

I drip slowly and land on you until I dry

You stay on me to try to get me wet

and stick with me forever

Some people hate me, but some people be me

and feel me

I splash splash on the ground

the dogs bark bark when such tiny sounds

hit the ground

When I dry, the sun will come out

When I dry, the breeze will be subtle

When I dry, the flowers will pop

I dry and out comes a rainbow

After the rain there’s always light

light that some people like, light that after dark

rainy clicks and clacks will jingle and sparkle

with bright colors and sunny days

light that fuels me until the next rain

So when I rain I will remember

after the rain, there’s always light.

The Hero Jon G.

Watch out villians!

Pow Pow!

The hero is here to save the day

Oh no, the bad guys are here!

Kablooey!

The hero beats them with no fear.

People say he’s a symbol of peace

Because he beats villians like a beast

The hero saves the city

and he says “no worries!”
