But It’s Still Part of Your World ––– Odes @ Moos

This week we worked on two different poems, one for 2nd grade and one for 3rd. The second graders learned about stanzas, and delved deeper into understanding poetic line breaks. We discussed rhythm, feeling, and meaning, while reading Quiet Night Thoughts, by Li Bai, also known as Li Po, and Li Bo. Third graders read Neruda’s Ode to Enchanted Light, in original Spanish and English translation, and thought about a space outside that makes them feel right with the world. Even if its just for a moment, what is that space or activity that makes you feel like the world makes sense, the world is a beautiful place, or however you’d like to think of it.

We run, we play, we skip, and we make.
But we do it all at the park, oh the park.
Boy do we have fun all at the park.
We can love the park, and we can hate the park.
But it’s still part of your world.

I felt like I was in a world
that never ends.

but it’s free
At Soldier Field it’s loud
but encouraging

but easy to find your way

people with
yellow shirts
looking at me.
Whatever
floats my
boat is
to play soccer.
It feels
good to
be on the
field.

I see people jumping and I also see
them playing having fun and they’re talking
and the water comes to me and pulls me too!
I see people eating and it is
really loud and people cab scream and
they could also do fun stuff!

I see people playing in the playground
and also jumping like in the monkey
bars and the slide and swings.
and that people also like playing
in the grass like playing
tag and running.
