Sabin’s Got Something To Say

I have the great pleasure of spending the day facilitating Sabin’s poetry summer camp today alongside fellow poet Maya Odim + Ms. Myer. We had a fantastic day getting to know students through a fun name game where we showed off our stellar dance moves. We then wrote some acrostic poems individually and together before transitioning to reading time. We read a poem from fellow CPC poet Daniela S. titled “I Am” then wrote our own I Am poems. Using words from our poems, students then made cute cootie catchers with fun fortunes and affirmations for others. Read our poems below:

Yo Soy Edwinmar M.

Yo soy Edwinmar M. y soy una chica

cuando sea profesional en gimnasia

Vengo de Chile y de una familia graciosa

Y voy a Venezuelaaaaaaaa

Lo se porque mis papas me lo dijieron

y me reunire con mi familia

Yo soy de Venezuela de Parte Mariara

I Am Genesis D.

I am Genesis, a girl

when I am myself and I do things that I like

I come from Puerto Rico and Nigeria (a little)

and I’m going to Georgia to see the Savannah Bananas

I know I’m smart, funny, and loving

and I love my family, I’m a great drawer

and I love cherries and octopuses

I am amazing

I Am Everly C.

I am pretty

when I twirl

I come from Puerto Rico and Mexico

and I’m going to eat carne tacos

I know I’m beautiful and

I know I can do a roundoff

I am flexible
