Practice, Practice, Practice

In our 2nd to last week together at Henry Elementary, we spent our time together editing poems and talking about performance techniques in prep for our 7th grade reading! Check out some of the student’s newest edits.

Downtown Chicago Alitza L.

building lights beaming
speakers blasting
cars honking
busy streets on summer days
that is downtown for you

the place that makes Chicago Chicago
people walking on downtown streets
visiting park
the bean
the fountain
the beach
that is downtown for you

flowers glowing
traffic
great sunny weather
summer they chant while walking through downtown

Navy Pier
the Lake
that is Downtown for you.

The Greatest to me, the smallest to the world Zammy P.

Dearest Jeanette,

You sing in Spanish.

I speak in Spanish.

Well I’m forgetting it.

Yet because of you

I’m not forgetting that much.

Your music it reminds me
of my life, in a way.
Your voice, it sounds like
the quietest in the room,
just like mine.
Always getting told to “speak
up.”

The world barely knows
you, only for the
cover of your
best song “Porque to
vas” in Russian.

The greatest to me
The smallest to me.

Yanelly M.

This is Chicago’s best pizza
It’s in a place where all wild Animals harass a lake
and where skyscrapers stay
The smell of Hot sizzling cheese
go take a bite and sit on a bench
and that one bite will give you happiness
beware of these ogers they will take your slice
and they won’t give it back instead take it
for themselves

The Poem from hell! Josuar Z.

Dear Pantera

Your the only Music I love to
talk about about always when I listen
to my favorite music it’s always so amazing
always reminds of the first time
I tasted my favorite food
I said that was amazing

that night I experienced those heavy sounding
lyrics I became more hungry for your music
when I found out what happened to the band
My soul was crushed

everyone will remember Pantera for
changing heavy metal forever and changing
me forever.

Las cualidades de ma computadora Karol Q.

La cara de la computadora
brilla cada que la despiertas

El idioma de

es dificil de
entender “click” “clack” “clock”
