Personification

After reading “Dear Spanish” by Mateo Quispe and creating our own epistolary poems, this week we learned about personification and how poets can give a non-human thing, human characteristics. We began to imagine ourselves as anything but human, a cat maybe, a favorite food. Then students wrote an epistolary poem using personification, in the voice of whatever object of their choice. Here are some of them below!

From Husky (Formerly Known As J.C.)

Dear human,

I want to play and sleep

in the snow

I want to eat steak

they taste yummy

From Ms. Cat (Formerly Known as J.R.)

Dear human,

Leave me alone

I do not want to be bothered!

Go somewhere or I will scratch you

I’m very mad at you!
