“Ode to Cereal”

This week I met with Nettelhorst 2nd graders on the morning of the domino cascade all over the school of the Cereal Box Challenge fundraiser benefiting Nourishing Hope in Chicago. Congratulations to Ms. Froman’s class for having donated the most cereal boxes of all classrooms in the school.  I understand they have won themselves an ice cream sundae Party! 🍨Congratulations! 👏🏾👏🏾

We still wrote ODES – poems in celebration of people, places, and things

Mrs. Barbeau and Mrs. Kari 2nd Grade

Ode for an Amethyst Bitania

I would love
to celebrate
an amethyst
Amethysts deserve a holiday
like an
amethyst
waiting to be
found.

Once a person
finds an amethyst
they would keep
it and make
it into an
earring.

Solar System Grayson

The moon and Jupiter needs
a present for eating flying
yucky asteroids.  The sun
will have a great time for
holding all its babies.  Earth
will have a Saturn party
because it’s so cool! Mom and
dad needs a special hug for
taking care of us.

Celebrating Teachers Regina

I celebrate teachers
For their hard work
For their support
For them to help us grow

Nature deserves... Penelope

Nature deserves something
special
for the
beautiful things
It can do.

Some things big
some small
some a
tiny
twig

Nature’s spooky
It can howl
“ahh! help a screech
owl!”

Ode to myself Jasmine

I would like to praise
myself because I am amazing
I am pretty, I am creative
I am fun
I am loveful
I am one in a million
and I am special

Cereal Lizzie

I think that
cereal
needs a
holiday
because
it is
yummy
and
crunchy
and also
soggy
also
I can
eat it
any time.

My favorite
is
honey nut cheerios

Ode to My Brain Patton

I would like to praise
my Brain
it helps with math
Telling every part of my
Body to move

Shoes Ashton

I would like to
celebrate shoes.
Shoes are very hard
workers that try to
stomp on things they
help your feet to not
get poked.

Ms. Rodriguez 2nd Grade

Eyes Kaylee

coaster. thank you
airplanes

Thank you mouth Evelyn

thank you mouth

thank you for chewing
or it would be hard to swallow
thank you for breathing in
and out

Ms. Froman 2nd Grade

Ode to Chairs Delilah

Ode to the chairs
they help us oh
so much.  Chairs
are important because
we need to rest our
bodies. we need chairs
because if we are
working
on paper we need
to sit
down.
also, chairs are more
comfortable than
sitting
on the
floor
with the hard wood.

Ode to family Lily

thank you family
for loving me
for hugging me
for caring
for me
for helping
me

Ode to my teacher Ellie

when students
are
hurt teachers help
us. I love
teachers
because they read
to us. they also
help
us learn. when projects
get hard teachers
are there
to
help us. They sneak
in a little silliness.

Ode to Nettelhorst Bess

Nettelhorst has
classrooms to
learn, books to read,
friends to make,
activities to do,
and awesome
teachers so
let’s…
CELEBRATE!

Ode to tree Nikolas

the tree
is hard.  It makes
shade.  It
has food
for animals.

the tree cut
a
branch.  A tree
is
tall.  A tree
has a home.

Tree grows big for
animals.

Ode to Books! Vivian

Books are amazing for
magical stories! Books
are great so I can get
educated, so I can read.
And when I’m done,
I’ll feel like I have
been watching TV
for ten hours!

Ode to floors Rylee and Henry

Thank you
floor, for letting
me
walk.  And you
hold me
so
I don’t
fall.  And I can
put
anything on
you.
