My Blue Poem: Colors Personified at Darwin

The second graders have been putting together many skills lately: personification, imagery, metaphor, simile, and their poems are so rich because of it! I thought I’d give them this prompt, and see what they do with it: If a color comes to life, what is like? How do you describe what a color feels like? Enjoy!

2nd Grade

Green by Elsy O.

Green is the sun shining
That’s my favorite color
A picture that is green

Mi Poema Azul by Valeria C.

Azul es como gotas de agua
Azul es como todo el cielo
Azul es como una cometa
Azul es como una persona triste
Azul es como el hielo de una nieve
Azul es un marcador
Azul es me color favorito

My Blue Poem by Valeria C.

Blue is like drops of water
Blue is like the whole sky
Blue is like a kite
Blue is like a sad person
Blue is like the ice of a snow
Blue is a marker
Blue is my favorite color

Magenta by Daisy B.

Magenta esta felize como una lombrize
Magenta esta triste como la lluvia
Magenta esta enojado como el fuego
Magenta esta asustado como una persona

Magenta by Daisy B.

Magenta is happy as a clam
Magenta is sad as rain
Magenta is angry like fire
Magenta is scared as a person

2nd Grade

Colors by Anthony S.

When I am in
my bed, the colors
are alive. They walk
to my bed. Then the
colors walk under
the bed. They sleep
under the bed then
the colors walk
out of the bed.

You Blue by Eric D.

Blue I feel a lot of
crazy.
That kid is
joyful.
I am looking so beautiful.
I am angry at
the leaf.

Gold by Christopher V.

My gold is boots

Gold by Jeshua P.

Gold the color gold, it lights
up the sun shining everything
even the sky
Gold is a type of yellow but it
is different because yellow does not
shine like gold
Gold can light your way everywhere
it can protect you from darkness

Gold by Xavier H.

I think of gold as a
million lights shining
