Lines, Lyrics, and Stanzas

For our first day together at Hamline Elementary 6th grade poets from Mr. Marroquin’s class, we read a poem about a city everyone is familiar with, “Chicago” by Carl Sandburg. Though the poem was written about 100 years ago many of the same issues Carl Sandburg writes about are still relevant today. Before we got to writing the poets learned about some structure of poetry, specifically line, lyric, and stanza. We played a game in which the poets had to figure out which line, lyric or stanza I was referring to. Stay tuned for their poems about the city of Chicago!
