Last Day Poetry Café
Our last day of this 2025-26 school year was a day of sharing. Students looked inside of their poetry portfolios to re-visit poems they enjoyed writing, brainstorms for poems they have written, poems they didn’t get to complete, and favorite lessons – to select something to share aloud, in front of their classmates. Some students were courageous enough to volunteer to MC our “Poetry Cafés.” I congratulated students for welcoming me into their classrooms to do things they may not have done before: learn about lines and stanzas, imagery, patterns and similes; to think thoughts, feel feelings, and acknowledge “small” and “large” people and moments; to try their hands at writing their own poems; and to read their pieces for live audiences. Thank you so much Swift 2nd and 3rd grade teachers and students for your time and attention throughout our residency, and for your parting gifts. Big Big Hugs to you all!
