Keep It Moving

Music is the soundtrack of our lives, as they say. This week The 7th and 8th graders of Waters learned about odes, poems that celebrate something, and engaged in a mini lesson on how to dance Salsa. After discussing “Poem for the Tin-tun-teros” by Brenda Cárdenas, students chose either a song, album, genre, musical artist, or instrument that they are thankful for. Students celebrated so many different types of music, using heartfelt and silly descriptions to highlight their thanks.

Poem for British Turtle Rap Alex H.

I am thankful for British Turtle Rap

A funny,

10 hour

Song of a

Turtle rapping,

in a British accent

All while dancing,

and wearing

a gold chain

It is like rap,

but with a funny

twist,

like rap, but never

ending

It reminds me

of working

on homework,

and makes

the work so much easier

I am thankful for British Turtle Rap

A funny,

10 hour

Song of a

Turtle rapping,

in a British accent

So cool Alvaro L.

My song is sooo cool

I want to hear it after school

My song is soo cool

I want to hear it under the moon

My song is so coool

My song is colder

than all the ice in the pool

Music Hayden Z.

I am thankful for music because it makes me happy

Music makes me feel like myself

It helps me when times are rough

listening to music is like dancing on clouds

Music is like waking up to a sunny day in the summer

hearing the waves crash against the shore

or the busy city in the night

Ms. Hernandez (8th Grade)

Everyday Yousra J.

Every day out

side of school

Meow Meow song playing in the car

every day

my siblings dancing

every day

we try to ignore it

every day after school

“All of the Lights!” Harrison C.

This is for all the people in Chi-City

those who sang “All of the Lights”

with their Homecoming dance moves.

with the power of their voice.

And their fingers clicking one note on the piano

This is for all the friends in Paris

those who never missed a note.

being there for the ups and downs.

Those who compare a “Mob to a King, a King to

a god, and a god to a non-believer!”

And to all the Kanye and Jay-Z lovers.

And to the teddy bear lovers.

This is for the people that didn’t “Runaway”

Thanks for being tight and clingy like my wired jaw.

And to all the Kanye fans

let’s go and “graduate.”
