Keep it Moving

Music is the soundtrack of our lives, as they say. This week the 7th graders of Clinton learned about odes, poems that celebrate something, and engaged in a mini lesson on how to dance Salsa. After discussing “Poem for the Tin-tun-teros” by Brenda Cárdenas, students chose either a song, album, genre, musical artist, or instrument that they are thankful for. Students celebrated so many different types of music, using warm and heartfelt descriptions to highlight their thanks.

Free - Song of the Eden Azrina A.

The hammering of drums,

and the whistle of flutes.

The voice makes me calm,

like everything’s

gonna be

ok.

This song gifts happiness to those

who want to drive.

And I think this as we tear through

the fields of endless grass, the sun

saying goodbye.

As it all ends with the humming, the

promise of freedom.

Poem for Chris Grey Reem K.

Your voice touches my heart

just like a unique art

you bring out a deep part

just like a dart on spot

your lyrics are meaningful

enough for me to overthink

I think it through

over and over and over again

your words make sense

more than the real meaning

they have dark meanings

with raw emotions

your voice lets go

the locked emotions

and feelings

and so you know

your words touch my heart

just like a unique art…

Untitled Sukayna A.

I hate music, I hate its beautiful melodies and poetic

lyrics, hate the way I plug my headphones in after

every minor inconvenience, I hate the way when I

think of my future I can only think of

music, I hate the way I need music all the time

to the point I’ll listen to anything just so

Daniel Caesar Esther L.

This is for the yearners,

your voice is so relaxing,

the sudden beat drop,

the riffling calm audio,

oh how your voice makes

me wish I could listen all day and

everywhere,

oh how I love your songs.
