Freewrite

This week, after our check-in, the Clissold poets dove into a conversation about the past, present, future, what we’ve learned and what we hope for. So we decided to write straight from the heart and let what was on our minds pour onto the page during a free write. Check out some of the words that emerged.

8th Grade

But the Roses Kurtis E.

Part 1

I built the garden, the foundation, square one

It may not be stable or strong

But it’s yours,

I plan on planting

I have the seeds

but your buds will bloom

not mine

not his

ours.

You can see me in those rose colored lenses

you can’t switch from roses to pumpkins

you have to stick to the roses

because they will get us somewhere.

You may not see me

you probably forgot me

but I’m always in the garden.

This is ours.

Part 2

Our flowers will sing, I can smell it

I hear and heard what they say

But don’t think they can decay,

never too late to plant,

even if it’s not the right way,

because you won’t always reap what you sow,

some will burn and cut your flowers

others will nurture them,

but we know how the roses bloom.

Get lost in the garden

ceiling broken, barriers broken

but remember how you did this,

and always look forward,

but the roses will always bloom.
