Erasing to Find Ourselves
For our last day at CPC Poetry Camp at Twain with 6th-8th graders, we spent some time learning about erasure poetry and blackout poems! Our example poem was Tracy K. Smith’s “Declaration.” Students were given a handful of texts to choose from for their own black out poetry experience. We left lots of open time for students to go back and edit and finish any lingering poems they hadn’t had a chance to yet. We also collaborated with our 3rd-5th grade poetry camp friends to create an interview poem about someone in the other group!
Hard to believe we spent full eight days together at Poetry Camp! Here is to more summer fun in Chicago.
