Lesson Note: This week, we learned how to write epistolary poems, which are letter poems. Everyone chose a person, place, or thing and wrote a poem in letter form. We practiced identifying tone and using it in our poems. Here are the last two poets to be published–now everyone has been published in both classrooms!

to me

you make me feel hopeful

but when you

died

i lost myself

but what I want to do is listen

to your favorite songs

The Best Dog Ever Romeo

Dear Whitney,

You’re the best dog I would ever ask for.

You were nice, good, grateful, cool, cuddly,

and protective. If Whitney were to be here

today, she would have her room

with her best friend Chapo.

Only if you were alive

I would let you lick me

and I don’t let any dogs lick me.

I know you couldn’t handle living too long

because you were old

and I would do anything for you to come back.

Love you Whitney.
