Dispatches from Italy: Monday Poems

Greetings! Our friends from G.B Vico in Tuscany are back with a collection of Monday-themed poems. Mrs. Maestrini and Mrs. Magnani’s middle school students have been writing poetry to strengthen their English skills. Last week we shared some poems written about bullying. Read on to see how students describe the near universal sorrow of Monday.

Crazy Monday Matteo A.

Monday is a sad day

I feel tired

I want to go back to bed

But when I see my friends

Sadness flies away

I feel as happy as a flower

 Ready to blossom

A Bad Monday Anass C.

When I get up on Monday

I feel like a koala

Because I’m very sleepy.

When I get to school

I feel like I’m In a dungeon

confused about the lessons

And lost In my own world

But when I finish school

I’m as happy as a lion which has just been fed

And I go to sleep

waiting for the next day

Monday Francesco B.

On Monday

I feel as sleep as a sloth.

When I go to school

I feel bored, I feel lonely

Like an old tired lion

But in the afternoon

I am a butterfly

I am over the moon,

I play with my sister,

And when I play with her

My day changes,

I am as happy as a jumping cat

On Monday morning

The sky is dark

On Monday afternoon

The sun shines,

 Always, always, always…

My Worst Enemy Giacomo P.

When I get up

I see the hell

Fire follows me with  its heat

I feel like an angry dragon in a cage

Then something hits me

Right in my heart,

a sweet punch…

I see my friends

And  now I ‘m in heaven!

Monday is my biggest enemy

But my friends never let me down,

they are the defenders

Of my tiny and fearful heart

Monday Girogia M.

Monday, boring day,

When I yawn I feel like a tiger, sad and tired.

I want to sleep more, but I have to go to school, no escape.

I’m like a bear waking up, slow and sleepy, without energy.

But it’ll pass, Tuesday will come, and it’ll be better,

 who knows?
