Are you big like the Sears Tower? Or small like a little doctor?

For our third week together, the Moos 4th & 6th graders read Blake’s “ Tyger ” and then wrote a poem to a mysterious animal. For their poem, they could ask the animal any questions they wished. You might recall that last week we introduced the notion of line, and this week we added stanzas. Below you will find not only questions with a surrealist bent, and mysterious poems, but you’ll also find that a number of students really took a cue from Blake’s cadence and rhythm, and you can hear it below. Enjoy!

4th Grade

Untitled by Yuisa A.

How can you see?
Can you see like a sea?
Or do you see like a bee?
Could it be me?
How do you see me?
Are you big like the Sears Tower?
Or are you small like a little doctor?
Am I like you?
Or are you like me?
Do you see me?
Or do you see her?
What do you eat?
Do you eat meat?
Or do you drink quick?
Ohh I think you are a giraffe,
or are you mad? At me? I think
you are going to eat me?
Ahhhh Ahhhh

The Seahorse by Jocelyn G.

Seahorse, seahorse,
were you born in a barn?
Will I think that you
were born on a farm?
Seahorse, seahorse,
who shows you how
to swim? Was it your
friend the shark?

Octopus by Daelyn B.

Octopus, Octopus, swimming around,
do you have a head so round?
Octopus, Octopus, are you nice?
I think you ate a lot of mice?
Octopus, Octopus, do you have a mouth
like a cow?

The Crab by David D.

How did you get crunchy and how
did you get meat?
Did you get dried and how did
you get stick eyes?
Do you eat turtles and
did you have a spine?
Did you go to jail
because you killed a person
because you have spikes and
you got stuck to him
and killed him? And how did
you escape?

6th Grade

Cat by Brandon B.

Cat, cat, standing in
the night, where
it is very bright,
is that right?
He finds a fish,
then he has to
lick the dish,
said the fisherman?
Then he walks
he finds chalk
so then he writes
on the docks?

Untitled by Merelyn D.

Puppy puppy when is your
birthday?
Puppy puppy why are you
excited?
Was it because you got
presents?
How many presents did you
get?
Did you have a great
party?
*Ms. Brown’s 5th Grade class was out adventuring this week (field trip). Until next time, 5th Graders!
