A Rainbow Is A Sash Of Colors: Odes @ Moos

This week the 3rd graders at Moos and I read Ode to Enchanted Light by Pablo Neruda . This poem leaves with the sense that the poet is in love with the world, and he’s watching it shimmer. He condenses his love of the world down to a love poem to light. I asked the students to write an ode to something in nature that is as striking to them as light is to Neruda. This was also our first attempt to think critically about stanzas and how to use them best. Enjoy!

Ode To The Tree By My House by Kya E.

It never lost leaves in December
It always keeps me breathing
It always keeps me cool in summer
It lets me get shade and see
It lets me and my cousins play around it
It always lets me read a book and relax under it

Ode To A Flower by Yahira L.

A flower smells good that it feels
like you want to eat it a
flower smells like a cinnamon bun
A flower looks pretty like you
were looking at a princess
and her mother
It feels like you were touching
a pillow and a soft blanket
