A poem that feels like a loving hug

This week flew by! Today was our last day of poetry camp at Sabin. Campers had so much fun writing poems, drawing self-portraits, making bracelets, making “ice cream” and playing games. I am so glad I got to join them for week 2. Today Ms. Musu led our game of “Snowman” (a better-named version of “hanged man”) and each student had a chance to have us guess their English or Spanish word. Then we wrote concrete poems together!

For our very last poem of camp, we read “My Poem” by Priyanshi in 5th Grade. An ars poetica is a poem about poetry; Priyanshi wrote about all the things she’d want her poem to do, like tell a funny joke or sing. We wrote a group ars poetica together about all the things we’d want our poems to do. We closed out with a snacks/crafts party with one last poetry cafe, and Ms. Maya came back to join us 🙂 Enjoy the ars poetica below!

I want a poem/Yo quiero un poema Everly C., Genesis D., Edwinmar M.R., Kehlani R.

Como un amiga que me de money
Como un amiga que me lleva la tienda
Como un amiga que me compre squish
Like a friend who makes me butter squishies
I would like my poem to make unlimited Dr. Peppers
It’s a happy poem or a squishy poem
I want a poem that feels like a loving hug
I LOVE YOU ALL
