Line by Line (Waters 6th Grade)

How exciting to be back at Waters for another year of poetry! To lay a good foundation with the two 6th grade classes I’m working with, we started with some community agreements and discussed all the things we know to be true about poetry. Then we talked about one of poetry’s building blocks: the line. We looked at a few different examples of line break usage.

Then, I handed each student an index card and had them write a single line about anything, such as something they love. Then I randomly put their lines together for a group poem from each class. I think they turned out pretty well! Take a look below:

Group Poem – Ms. Hooper’s Class

Ears hurting, mouths open
I love dogs they’re really cute!
The big orange manboy sat on the couch, meowing
Everything that is up is down but people’s hope never goes down
Scared how did I get here, hiding in the basement with my son Timmy and terrorbird
¿Cual es tu animal favorito?
Ze Gorillas Gone Crazy
People yelling and screaming, our school
MONKEY
WHY would you do that?
Happy mad mean sad that is what we are
I love p t ,

Friends and family are life <3
I have no inspo
But sometimes,
Dragon go boom
Soccer Monkey
Sol, cielo, chocolate, luz, rosa, mar, corazon, osito, sombrero y oro
Pencils are sharp and cool,
Henry is hot
My day is always beautiful when I see dogs.
From being thrown up in the air to being scared of
falling
down
UP
I wonder if I will have the courage to go again
