Like you I love music

Week 15: Like You

This week we started off by asking, “Have you ever had a moment of deep appreciation for the world around you? After a few minutes we read Roque Daltons poem “Like You” a piece that celebrates our connection to each other and the world by celebrating some of the simple joys of life. Students then wrote their own pieces about some of the things they share in common with those close to them and people around the globe. I really love the way this exercise asks students to think about what connects them to humanity and all the common threads that connect us. Enjoy this weeks pieces!

Jayleen

Like you I love music

and my cozy warm

bed. Flower are beautiful

the way the petals

move when the wind

blows, and the fresh

scent, The moon holds

a powerful glow in

the darkness. People are

deserving of equal rights.

I hate being in crowded places in makes

me feel like I’m

suffocating and there’s no

aire to help me.

Butterflies are amazing

and the way their wings

flap when they

fly and the unique

color of wings each

butterfly holds.

Poema

Alisson

Como tu yo amo algo

tal vez no las mismas cosas

pero amamos algo. Flores, naturaleza, animales

son cosas muy preciosas lo hermoso que

pueden ser estas cosas y animales tal vez

Gracias a la natauraleza por lo que nos

a dado, maravillas, calma. Cuando pienso

en ello me da una ansiedad o nerviosismo

a la vez que una felicidad. La tranquilidad,

calma, y soledad. Ver como aveces pueden

a ver rios en muchas ojas.

Gracias a la vida por las cosas hermosas.

Like you, I love something

maybe not the same things

but we love something. Flowers, nature, animals —

these are very precious things,

how beautiful they can be, these things and animals, maybe.

Thanks to nature for what it has given us:

wonders, calmness. When I think about it,

it gives me anxiety or nervousness,

but also happiness. The tranquility,

calm, and solitude. Seeing how sometimes

there can be rivers among many leaves.

Thanks to life for the beautiful things.
