I Am Poems: “My life is like the wind…”

This week we read Nikki Giovanni’s Ego Trippin’ and talked about about how we celebrate ourselves. Then the students had an opportunity  to ego trip for a  bit and write a poem where they celebrated different aspects of themselves using metaphor, comparison and exaggeration like Ms. Giovanni does in her poem. Enjoy this week’s poets!

I Am

Mariah J.

I’m as fun as the park

crazy as my own self

I love as all the mothers in the world

But I have a cold pass

colder than ice

I’m beautiful

I’m that woman

Beige

Nylah J.

I am so beige, not too bright and not too dark

walking in the shadows not wanting to be

seen

It’s not that I’m mean, just don’t like to be

seen

If you knew me you would know I am like

the spring

Not too cold, not too hot it’s the

perfect time for me.

I am like a cat calm

until provoked

Give me the power of invisibility

So I can come and go as I please
