To be a lady

Marissa H.

To be a lady,

You have to fit the description.

You must wear heels,

According to society!

You must wear tights,

according to society!

You must wear a dress,

according to society!

You must wear makeup,

according to society!

You must stand tall,

according to society!

You must be happy,

according to society!

To be a lady,

You shouldn’t have to fit the description.

Divided Cities

Kylah S.

In these divided cities

summers are warm like a burning fire.

Summers are like a burst of energy.

Summers in this city are like

an engine that never stops humming.

In a different place, a different

story perhaps

that created a different person,

like a bird in a different atmosphere

or habitat.

Winters in this different place

are like a chill in your spine,

winters in this place can make you cold or bitter,

like you have to protect or shield

yourself from the world.

These are the divided cities.

I’m thinking about something bright,

hot days come closer when it’s going to feel like

flames everywhere I go,

I don’t feel a cool breeze but a breeze with flames,

these flames have me exhausted and hard.

My body gives up I don’t have enough energy

until all of these flames disappear.
