‘Good Morning / Good Afternoon/ Good Night’: Small Kindness Poems

Students wrote and talked about kindness before reading the poem, ‘Small Kindnesses’  by Denusha Lameris.

Lesson Note: Kindness has health benefits. Kindness not only feels good, but it can also boost the giver’s well-being. Studies show that when people are kind, they have lower levels of stress hormones, and their fight-or-flight response calms down. For instance, when we see the person thank us or smile back, our brain is a feel-good bonding hormone, increasing trust and reducing fear and anxiety. Research also shows that giving directly to a person rather than contributing online seems to be able to unlock these emotional rewards. –Psychology Today

I am happy about what I did
What I did was I help people when they need some help
If I accidentally hurt someone I help them up and ask them if they are ok
I ask if they need some help on work
I help people if they get hurt
I try to help them with schoolwork by explaining the work to them
I am happy for what I did
For everyone one who I helped
I’m happy for what I did

The Small Kindness

I’ve been thinking about the ways when someone welcomes you
and you really need it because Life is not easy.
I’ve been thinking about the ways when someone hugs you
because you are reassuring someone.
I’ve been Thinking about ways when someone gives you supplies
because you are forgetful.
I’ve been thinking about the ways when someone

Kindness

When you show kindness
What do you do?
You can hold the door for someone
Pick up something when someone drops it
There’s a lot of stuff you can do
It doesn’t need to be an action
You can just say thank you
Good Morning
Good Afternoon
Good Night
There are always ways to know kindness

Warmth
By Rena L.

Have you ever noticed when someone compliments you and you can see the sincerity in their eyes? Such as letting you go first in line, saying thank you, and someone smiling back when you have helped them. This will make you feel good about yourself and help others too. When people come together and show that they care for each other and show kindness in the simplest way, like giving back to others, when someone is walking by, they push in their chair so they don’t trip, or when you compliment someone and they smile at you making them feel confident and self-assured. How can you help others?
