Emotions + Metaphor

Last week at Dever Elementary 7th grade students explored Metaphors for the first time. We discussed the ways we use metaphors in our everyday language and about how metaphors allow us to more deeply understand our world and experiences. Student’s wrote pieces about what emotions feel like through metaphors.

Happiness is sunshine

the sun will not

always be there

but when the sun

come out it make you

fill with joy and

happiness

and the sun

will make you

feel excited.

Happiness

Keleia R.

Happiness is a balloon,

floating oh so high

with no consequences.

Happiness is a balloon, many desire it.

Happiness is a balloon, a balloon that’s able to be popped

with a single pin of sadness.

Happiness is music

all different, depending on the person.

Happiness is music

Some good

Some bad.

Happiness is music

being able to change throughout time.

Happiness is a mug of hot warm tea.

Sadness is the coals of a fire losing their warmth.

Calm is the soft of my favorite blanket.

Solitude is the door of my room keeping me in silence.
