Dreaming Together

In the second week of our after school residency the 3rd-5th graders at Hale Elementary explored ideas about dreams. We discussed different types of dreams: dreams about the future, silly dreams, fantasies, and nightmares. On Tuesday we read the poem “What The Ocean Dreams Of In Its Secret Heart” by high school poet Sahana Rangooni featured in the poetry anthology “Tell The Whole World.” In her poem Sahana wrote about the type of dreams an ocean might have. Ocean dreams of sun and birds/ Ocean dreams of water, rain, and skyline. Together we wrote a group poem about what different living and non-living things dream about.

On Wednesday students wrote individual poems about their own special dreams. There was so much giggling going on that day, when a few students tried to come up with the silliest dreams. Thursday was our first class open mic, where students had the chance to share their poems in front of their classmates. Make sure to check out these awesome poems all about dreams!
