This week at Henry Elementary, we watched and read Joshua Bennett’s poem “Dear Stevie.” We learned about epistle poetry and wrote poems in letter form to our favorite musicians (or authors or sports teams)! Check out the student’s writing from this week.

Ashley M., “My Ivan Cornejo”
Dear Ivan Cornejo,
You are mine and my sister’s favorite artist
Because of you we’ve become more close
You bring me and some of my friends joy
I thank you for being an amazing artist
Your music has healed me
Without you, I would not be here today
You’re my reason for never giving up
Seeing you in person for the first time was everything
Your songs bring me in tears but also joy
When I saw you in person I finally felt happy again
Your music has healed me
You are so true and speak your mind
Your music is always stuck on my mind
Your songs are forever with me
Your music has healed me.
Jonathan J., “Raul Jimenez Penalty”
Dear Raul Jimenez,
You are the best striker in the Mexico
team because you always score
and you save us last minute.
I remember Mexico got a last minute
penalty and you took it and
you scored and we won the finals
and got a trophy.
You were the best striker in
our team because you will always
do a comeback and we will
win every game.
When it was Mexico vs. Honduras
it was 2.0 we were losing
until you scored an you will
score again and assist our
other player and we got
a penalty last minute and
a different player took it and
we won 4-0 and went to
the semi finals against Canada
Raul Jimenez is the best striker
in our Mexico team and no one
can replace him.
Raul Jimenez is the best because
he helps us with trophies.
Marlon C., “Riovazz”
Dear Riovaz,
Your songs are so powerful like the sun
Love to hear your songs whenever
your song “Prom Night” on repeat
your songs make me feel calm
The first time I heard you
Felt calm and enjoyed your song
so powerful that it controls my
emotion. It’s songs has made me strong.
Zam P., “The Greatest to Me, The Smallest to the World”
Dearest Jeanette,
You sing in Spanish,
I speak in Spanish,
Well I’m forgetting it.
Yet because of you
I’m not forgetting because
of you.
Your music it makes
me feel something like
You’re the person who
loves someone that
isn’t for you.
The quiet voice
in the room.
You are my voice.
The voice I wish I had

Sebastian M., “Messi”
querida messi
talla tre quiero ver porque hermano
completamente tras de la tere te reo
cachos de ti solo degias ser el
la primeta vez que te vi en vivo
te amo muchos
Rosie G., “Favorite Artist”
Dear Olivia Rodrigo,
You might not get this
but if you do, you need to know
I love some of your songs
mostly because I only listen to some
when I hear my favorite songs
My feet tap against the ground going
tap, tap, tappy, tap
Then when I feel like it
I dance, making up moves that would
go with the song
or I sing the song
but if it has cuss words
I don’t sing them.
Sometimes I can remember the lyrics
well only a few
The songs I listen to are
“deja vu” “vampire” “happier” “get him back”
“traitor” “bad idea right?” “obsessed”
“jealously, jealously”
I love those songs.
I think my favorite would
be “obsessed.”
Maritza A., “444”
Querido Yan block
eres un musico increible
astra podria decir que inigualable
la primera vez que te essuche
fue hace tiempo, pero ahora que
reviviste en mis pensamientos
me arrepenti de aver
dejadote atras tanto tiempo
eres como algo subrreal
eso andulos como la pasta
ni tan negros ni cafes
simplemente brillantes como el sol
y ni hablar de esos ojos que
pareen dos estrellos brillantes
mas que perfecto como los
recuerdos de to musica.
Kelvin Sa.,“Canserbero”
querido canserbero hoy te escribo
este poema porque tu musica me hace

tiempo, por que con tus, letras me llevas al
pasado o futuro. eres el psicologo de la musica
para mi.
