Cosplay For Readers!

When we arrive to schools to perform an assembly, we don’t always know where we’ll perform in the school, it might be the auditorium, the library, a gymnasium, we’ve even been asked to perform on a baseball diamond before!  Though, wherever the kids are, we’re excited to hang out, high five, and perform poems!  However, sometimes we’re also surprised by the joyful celebration of spirit days, color days, and holidays!

Today, we were the special guests for Reading Day at Keller Regional Gifted Center! What a glorious surprise! As the kids filed into the gym, many were dressed up as their favorite literary character!  There were at least three Harry Potters, Waldo, and a Cat in a Hat, basically cosplay for tiny humans!

Watch this delightful video below of Luis Tubens (front) and Mojdeh Stoakley (behind him in yellow) to see if you can spot any of your favorite characters from children’s literature!  Our Poets with Class poets decided to make the assembly a full-immersion interactive assembly, and captured this moment while Mojdeh was writing a poem on-the-spot inspired by the students!
